1 – Favorite Quote and Why #NaBloPoMo

This post is part of BlogHer’s writing prompts for NaBloPloMo I won’t even pretend I’ll be sure to blog every day, but I’ll try even if it’s just something short or a picture. (What is NaBloPoMo? wiseGEEK has the answer)

Hm. My favorite quote? There are so very many sound words of advice to choose from, how will I pick just one? How about my favorite one at this particular moment? That will have to suffice.

Right now I could easily go with eitherĀ  Rufio’sTears are feelings you can’t say” and Good Charlotte’sIt always seems, those little things, they take the biggest part of me” (Click either link for full lyrics.) The songs are alternating on repeat in my ear because I recently spoke them to a friend who was having a hard time.

Instead I will take a line from Anne Frank.

How wonderful is it that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” – Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

I love this quote because it reminds us that we have power in our worlds, we have the ability to change our lives in almost any way we’d like, and we don’t have to wait for anyone else. It’s all on us.

While changing the world at large can be a daunting task (Who am I kidding? It’s damn near impossible!) one can always take a look at their immediate world and make a small change to something they don’t like about it.

Don’t like something about work? See about making a small change and see if improves. I found that the act of merely changing where my computer was on my desk made my work world a little more comfortable.

Having a case of the Negative Nellys? Make yourself write or say out loud something positive for every negative thought. I’m not kidding. I know it sounds Pollyanna of me to say it and I know it won’t work for every one, every time, but it works. If that’s not your speed, make someone else smile. I can’t count the number of times that me making someone else smile has had a positive impact on my mood. Who knew?

Little changes to your day add up in a big way…and maybe enough people making small changes will impact the world on a bigger level.

Go change something right now and come back tomorrow or next week and let me know how it went. What are you going to change?

Personally, I’d like to be more neat and organized, be better at finishing a project that I’ve started so I think today and this month make changes to facilitate that change. I’m not sure where to start, but I’ll figure it out.
