2 – If I could live anywhere, where would it be? #NaBloPoMo

This post is part of BlogHer’s writing prompts for NaBloPloMo I won’t even pretend I’ll be sure to blog every day, but I’ll try even if it’s just something short or a picture. (What is NaBloPoMo? wiseGEEK has the answer)

I pretty much like the area I live in. The Capital District has a lot to offer, my job affords me some pretty cool opportunities, and I like having my family and friends near by. I don’t mind the cold for the most part. Generally, the heat waves don’t last more than a few days at a time and lead to fantastic thunderstorms. I also appreciate that we get to have 4 seasons here with each one having it’s own special beauty. I don’t know that I’d leave this area without a heck of a good reason.

When I think of where I’d like to live, I don’t have a specific location in mind (although I have some neighborhoods I like a lot) what comes to mind is the home I’d like to call my own.

It has a fantastic front door and inviting landscaping with season appropriate flowers. It isn’t too big or too small and it has a basement and/or attic that can be made into livable space. It has 2 or 3 bathrooms, one (preferably off the cook/entertain/eat in kitchen) in the laundry/mud room, decently sized bedrooms with closets an office or study for my husband and a craft/sewing room for me. It has a lot of open space that flows into each other, but doors that close off space for quiet. The kitchen has lots of work space and tools for baking and cooking.

The back yard has room to run around, raspberry bushes and strawberry plants. It has a compost bin and a small garden plot. There’s a fire pit and a deck with a grill and picnic table big enough for friends and family to join us for outdoor summer meals. And a Slip and Side. Most certainly a Slip and Slide.

It’s a lived in space with little formality but happy colors and the kind of furniture you can sink into with a cup of tea or glass of wine and a friend to chat.

I don’t ask for much, but something tells me I better get designing it myself.
